Copper Canyon Baptist Church (CCBC) was a church plant of First Baptist Church of Angels Camp. They began by starting an AWANA group, which brought 35 boys and girls from Copperopolis. The members and Pastor of First Baptist of Angels Camp saw a real need for a Baptist Church in a growing area.
In 2006, Pastor Dave Kinney started a Bible study and prayer meeting in a home. In a few weeks, the Pastor and those attending found the home meeting place was getting too small. They approached the elementary school in Copperopolis to hold services on their campus. On Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006, they held their first Sunday service in the elementary school. On that first Easter, there were 30 people, with 15 being children. During the first year, Pastor Kinney was pastor to both churches.
The name “Copper Canyon Baptist Church” was suggested by Don Hopper, a member of First Baptist of Angels Camp and also previous member at Copper Canyon. The name is descriptive of the location and also has a historical connection to the area. In the early 1800’s, the area was known as Copper Canyon.
November 2006, Pastor Sean Paulson became the Senior Pastor and faithfully served for 15 years until he was called to another church.
In June 2022, Pastor Ken Sartain took over as the full time Senior Pastor. His love for Jesus Christ and the church are well evident.
In August, 2024, Copper Canyon moved from the Armory to the Governor's Mansion, in Copper Town Square.
This move comes in response to a church-wide time of prayer and reflection of where God is at work, and how we, as a church, can answer His calling.
This new direction has allowed Copper Canyon to be nearer to community activities and ensures that God's Kingdom is impacting those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior.
