Prison Ministry

Copper Canyon Baptist Church supports two Christian based programs at the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) in Jamestown, CA.  SCC is part of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.  The two programs are Base Class , which teaches Bible basics, and Celebrate Recovery (CR) which follows a Christian approach to helping individuals deal with their hurts, habits, and hang ups.  In order for SCC to hold these programs for the inmates, it requires volunteers to be present during each program to provide support and offer guidance as required.  The programs are typically two hours long and meet weekly.  Between Base Class and CR, we support 5 program sessions each week, all of which meet in the evenings except for one CR session that meets in the afternoon.  Volunteers can go into as many program sessions as their schedule and time permits.  Watching God work in the lives of the men who participate in these programs is extremely rewarding and so worth the Volunteers time.  Please let Mike McCurdy know if you are interested in finding out more about becoming a Volunteer with the SCC Religious Prison Ministry.  His number is 408-832-6096 and email is
